Pink Sandstone Temples
Banteay Srei is the pink temple. The stone is a hard rose sandstone that holds relief deeper than almost anything in the main park, and the shrines are small because a priest, Yajnavaraha, built them in 967 rather than a king building a state mountain. It is about 37 kilometers northeast of Siem Reap and the Angkor Pass covers it. Morning light is when the color shows. Nothing else at Angkor is this stone.
