Nicknames and famous highlights
History and architecture
The official name is Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morakot, the temple of the emerald-jewel Buddha. King Norodom began the complex at the end of the 19th century and it was completed in the early 20th. More than five thousand silver tiles, the figure usually given is 5,329, cover the floor of the vihara. They are mostly protected by carpet. The so-called Emerald Buddha is a baccarat crystal image, not emerald. A gallery around the courtyard carries a painted Reamker. The building is entered on the Royal Palace ticket and closes for lunch. It is a living royal chapel, which is why photography rules inside the vihara are strict.
