History and architecture
Wat Botum Vadey is the monastery that serves the Thommayut order in Phnom Penh, the smaller reform tradition brought to the Cambodian court in the 19th century. The present monastery belongs to the reign of King Norodom, who established the modern palace quarter. The park around the vihara holds stupas of royalty and public figures. It is a quiet counterweight to the ticketed palace next door, and it is free. Dress as you would for any working wat.
