Nicknames and famous highlights
History and architecture
Wat Banan is an Angkorian hill temple usually dated to the 11th century and the reign of Udayadityavarman II. Five prasat stand on the summit in a quincunx that invites the Angkor Wat comparison, though the scale is much smaller and the building history is less secure than at the great state temples. A later Theravada monastery gave the site its wat name and still shares the hill. Guides count 358 steps from the rice fields to the towers. There is a small provincial ticket, not the Angkor Pass. From Battambang city the drive is about half an hour south.
