History and architecture
Wat Kandal is the town monastery on the east bank of the Sangker in central Battambang. The present buildings are Theravada architecture of the modern city, whose riverfront took its present shape under the Thai and then the French periods of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is not an Angkorian prasat. People come for the naga balustrade, the vihara, and the ordinary life of a provincial wat. Entry is free. A Wikipedia search for this common name is ambiguous, so coordinates may stay empty until they are set by hand.
