Face Temples
The faces belong to the end of the 12th century and the reign of Jayavarman VII. Bayon, at the center of Angkor Thom, is the one visitors mean by the face temple. The same faces stand on the city gates, on the smaller towers of Ta Som and Banteay Kdei, and far to the northwest at Banteay Chhmar. They are generally read as the king in the form of Lokeshvara. Bayon and the Angkor Thom gates need an Angkor Pass. Banteay Chhmar does not, and it is a long day from Siem Reap.
