History and architecture

Ta Som is one of Jayavarman VII's late-12th-century Buddhist temples and is often described as a foundation in honor of one of his teachers. The plan is a single enclosure with a face tower, devatas, and a collapsed central shrine. The photograph everyone takes is the east gopura, where a fig has split the stone and then been left in place, a smaller version of the Ta Prohm idea. It sits on the Grand Circuit between Neak Pean and the East Mebon road.
